Who We Are
Hikmat Foundation is a public charitable and education trust established by Syed Gulrez Hoda for undertaking activities in the field of education and social and economic development. The primary focus of the Foundation is West Champaran, a district to which Mr Hoda and his family belong – from Lauriya Nandangarh.
In the field of education, Hikmat Foundation is supporting female education by establishing high schools for girls in remote and backward areas. These schools are being started with the support of local communities, who are actively involved in school management. The first such girls high school has been established in Raihbari Mahwa, Bagha 1 Block. Other locations are at different stages of development in Lauriya, Narkatiaganj, Bagaha 2 and Ramnagar Blocks.
A second area of activity is economic development. West Champaran district like rest of Bihar, has a very young population. Jobs are few and far between. Hikmat Foundation is working to develop profitable self-employment opportunities. The poultry sector has immense potential and the Foundation brings industry experts and financial institutions to train and finance new poultry entrepreneurs. In a subsequent stage, dairy and agro-based enterprises will be promoted.
Hikmat Foundation is mindful of the rich heritage of Champaran District (West & East), be they archeological, cultural or political and desires to help recognize and memorialize contributors to this rich heritage. The Peer Muhammad Munis Memorial Lecture and Journalism Award is an effort in this regard to honour a remarkable literary, political and journalistic personality whose contribution to society and history of Champaran is not often fully recognized.
